The Law Enforcement Department of the county consists of the Sheriff, Chief Deputy, 20 Sheriff's Deputies, both full and part-time bailiffs, process server, Special Deputies, Trip Guards and clerical staff.
The Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff Civil Service Commission periodically offers testing for the position of deputy sheriff. Furthermore, each deputy sheriff must graduate from the West Virginia State Police Academy.
